Doc was born on March 17, 1930, in Chester, Ohio to the late William O. Reid and Eva (Gooch) Reid. He joined the United States Army on March 8, 1951, and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, serving as a petroleum products dispenser until his discharge on June 3, 1953. He moved to Abilene in 1958 and married Ruth Eileen Walton, who he knew from Ohio, on March 24, 1962. Together, he and Ruth made Abilene their home, raising 4 children and making many special memories through their 59 years of marriage. Doc adored his wife and selflessly provided for the family. He worked as a mechanic his entire life. His work ethic was inspiring and his love for his family unwavering. He had a heart of gold that touched the lives of many. He loved hunting and fishing through the years but was also an avid jokester. If he made you a sandwich, or if you left your purse unattended, he would always leave you a “surprise.” He loved telling the many stories of all the pranks he has pulled on people in the past. He was an exceptional man and set a great example for all.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Reid, his parents and siblings.
He is survived by two daughters, Carla Morgan and husband Guy, Starr Gregory and husband Lee; two sons, Roger Bailey wife Sheila, and Chuck Bailey and wife, JoAnn; 7 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
