Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home with Brian Adrian officiating. Interment will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5-7:00 PM also at the funeral home.
Shirley was born on April 6, 1941, in Bryan, Texas to the late Louis Allen Cox and Mae Bell (Toines) Cox. She married the love of her life Charles E. Nowlin on July 22, 1962. She moved to Abilene in 1965. She attended McMurry University to further her education. She worked in nursing for many years at several institutions in town to include Coronado and Radford Hills. She also diversified her professional portfolio by becoming a real estate broker.
Her faith was a cornerstone in her life. She was a longtime member of the Jehovah’s Witness. She enjoyed the fellowship with her many friends. Shirley was very intelligent, loyal, nurturing, and a good neighbor. She was the perfect wife and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother and two sisters.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles E. Nowlin; daughter, Mary Louise Cox- Brooks; sons, Edward Charles Cox, Anthony Charles Nowlin and Kenneth Ray Nowlin; grandchildren, Mosi Brooks, Shenekka Brooks, Ahmad Brooks, Abeni Brooks-Hudson, Natera Cox, Mario Cox, Jasmine Cox, Tillman Ware, London Nowlin, China Nowlin, Kenneth Ray Nowlin, Jr.; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and brothers and sisters of the Kingdom Hall.
At Shirley’s request memorial contribution can be made to any organization assisting the nursing field.
