Born in Ware, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Arthur Henry, Jr. and Lillian Ethel (Miner) Warfield. She grew up in West Brookfield, graduated from Warren High School, and attended Boston University and the University of New Hampshire.
In the 1970s she became a member of the DAR and did volunteer work in Phoenix, Arizona, at the VA Hospital. She also served as a Maricopa County Election Board worker and was a familiar face at the neighborhood precinct during elections.
After raising three sons she lived in several cities in the Southwest, making friends wherever she went. Abilene became her home, where she continued volunteer work at Dyess Air Force Base.
She leaves sons Mark Gilligan of Abilene, Matthew R. Gilligan (Heidi) of Savannah, GA, Thomas A. Gilligan of Phoenix, AZ, and two grandchildren, Colin R. Gilligan (Jessica) of Savannah, GA, and Erin L. Gilligan of Smyrna, GA.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, Leukemia-lymphoma Society or Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) Foundation.
