Michael Dennis Gootee, 70, of Abilene completed life’s race on July 15, 2024.
Michael was born on October 6, 1953 in Arkansas City, Kansas to the late Herbert and Edith (Plecker) Gootee. In 1977, he moved to Abilene, Texas and made it home. He was naturally ambitious and a leader. He owned several businesses: D&M Transmissions, Woody’s Bar and J&M Transport. He loved cars and spent a lot of time at the Abilene Speedway where he raced many. His sense of humor will never be forgotten. He lived life to the fullest and did it on his own terms.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his best friend, Debby Gootee; their children, Waylon Gootee (Rebecca), Misty Yamamoto (Ryan), Michael Shawn Gootee (Lauren) and Cody Gootee; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Reba Menzer, Debra Branam and Mark Gootee; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and family who also knew him as “Dad” and Papa.”
The family will gather at a later date to celebrate his life.
