Kenneth L. Gavin, 68, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at a local medical center in Abilene. Graveside services will be 10:00a.m., Monday, July 15, 2013, in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.
Kenneth was born November 12, 1944 in Superior, Nebraska to the late Leo Timothy Gavin and Iola Maybelle Sinner Gavin. After finishing his education, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served our country for 23 years. Kenneth loved to travel and was a lifelong Lutheran. He was a great story teller, loved people and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Patrick Gavin; brothers, Russell, Bill, and Bob Gavin; sister, Leola Rhodehorst; and son-in-law, Michael Miller.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon L. Gavin of Abilene; sons, Vincent Gavin and wife, Lori of Missoula, Montana and Dirk Gavin and wife, Kim of Keller, TX; daughters, Laurie Miller of Abilene and Shawn Wright and husband, Chaplain Ed Wright of Wiesbaden, Germany; brother, Thomas Gavin of Killeen, TX; sisters, Christine Flesner of Clay Center, Nebraska and Kathy Wesley of Higgensville, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
