John Emory Houseman died Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Graveside services will be 1:00p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Waco Memorial Park Cemetery, Waco, TX under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St.
John was born December 6, 1919 in Greenmount, Maryland and was 95 years old at the time of his death. His parents were Jacob Emory Houseman (known as Emory) and Jennie Royer DeHoff Houseman.
John received bombardier training during World War II, and stayed in the United States Army Air Force (later called the United States Air Force) as a reservist. He became active duty again during the Korean War, and was sent to James Connally Air Force Base in Waco for additional training. While in Waco he met Jean Lorine Layne from Speegleville near Waco, and they were soon married. John left the Air Force in the early 1950's and got a job as an engineer at the newly opened KWTX-TV broadcasting station. He stayed at KWTX-TV until his retirement in 1982.
John and Jean moved to Abilene, Texas to be near family in 1993. John is preceded in death by his wife Jean, and is survived by his daughter and her husband Jill and Bert Geeslin, their son George Geeslin, their daughter and her husband Joy and Trip Gollihar, and two great-granddaughters.
