Irma “Gene” Henson, 86, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014, at her residence in Abilene. Services will be 2:00p.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at North Park Baptist Church with Rev. Louis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Henson Cemetery near Tuscola, under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, Abilene. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Maxie Henson, Arty Henson, Cutter Pack, Truitt Henson, Jim Cagle, Barrett Anderson, Cy Brooks, and Gary Westbrook.
Irma was born on November 27, 1927 in Hamlin, Texas to Eugene and Ida Mae Shelton Farmer. She moved from Hamlin to Abilene in 1931. Irma loved her family and her church family. She was a member of North Park Baptist Church for over 40 years. She loved to crochet, work puzzles, and loved music.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and one brother, Guy Harold Farmer and wife LaJunta; and a sister, Gloria Mae McCorkle.
Survivors include her two sons, Maxie and Arty Henson of Abilene; two daughters, Cindy Henson of Abilene, and Melva Pack and husband, Ray of Bastrop, TX; brother, Dorman Farmer and wife, Marion of Abilene; a sister, Virginia “Ginger” Brooks and husband, Cy of Abilene; grandchildren, Truitt Henson and wife, Brittany, Misti DeeAnn Anderson and husband, Barrett, and Cutter Pack; great-grandchildren, McKenna, Kaylin Mae, and Ella Sue; and many nieces and nephews that she adored; and a host of friends.
