Betty was born on October 25, 1928 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Lloyd S. and Bertie (Beall) Cummins. She was a graduate of David Lipscomb High School in Nashville, TN. At a young age, she was baptized at the St. Elmo Church of Christ. After the sudden death of her father, the family relocated in 1946 as her mother was given the opportunity to work at Abilene Christian College (now ACU). Betty graduated from ACU in 1948 with a Degree in Business Administration. Professionally, she worked as a corporate accountant at Wes-Tex Drilling for many years. Working in a male dominated field was a daunting task for the times, but like any task that she took on, Betty was determined to be successful. Even after retirement she continued to be a member of The Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, where she maintained active interests and relationships within the oil industry. As a member of University Church of Christ since the 1940's, her faith and church fellowship were of great importance to her. Betty loved her family’s history and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames XVII Century, and the Magna Charta Dames. She will be remembered for her fierce independence, elegance, attention to details, and her love and devotion to family.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents; her brother, John O. Cummins II; sisters, Sarah Lee and Mary Lloyd Cummins; nephew, Lloyd Glenn Cummins.
Betty is survived by her nephew, John O. Cummins III and his wife, Joyce; niece, Susan Cummins; great nephews and nieces, Bud Ohliger and his wife Kristal, Randy Ohliger and Kimber Favor, Emma Elizabeth Cummins; great-great nieces, Lilee and Preslee Ohliger; cousins of the Watson family. She is also survived by many friends whom she always held close to her heart.
In lieu of flowers, Betty's wishes are to instead have donations be made to the giver's charity of choice.
