David William George Jr passed away Wednesday August 11, 2021. David was born May 5, 1966 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. David moved to Hawley, TX with his family in 1980 and graduated from Hawley High School in 1984. David received his peace officer certification in 1995 and dutifully served the Jones County Sheriff office as a jailer until graduating with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in 1996. After graduation, David spent time with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice before returning to Jones County in 1998 where he continued to proudly serve the Jones county community in several different offices including: Anson City Police Department, Hawley Chief of Police, Hawley Independent School District, Resource Officer, and Hamlin City Police Department. David loved his time spent as an officer and cared for his community deeply.
Above all else, David was a family man. He valued time spent together and loved to bring a smile to your face. He is survived by his wife of 26 years Liana George, and his two daughters, Courtney George, and Megan George of Hawley. His father David George Sr. of Hawley. His brother Eric George and wife Jolene George of Tuscola. His sister Christy New of Ft Worth. Nephew Christopher Placker of Abilene. Nieces Amanda George of Vidor and Britney George of Hawley. As well as many Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins. David was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Ann George, and his younger brother Micheal Allen George.
Funeral services will be held Thursday August 19, 2021 at Hawley High School Gymnasium
800 1st Hawley, Tx, and led by Pastor Brandon Newton. Burial to follow at Hawley Cemetery directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Visitation for David will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Elliott-Hamil funeral home, 5701 US Hwy 277 South Abilene.
