John was born on June 22, 1929 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to the late Henry F. and Elizabeth A. (Beckman) Reising. He grew up and graduated high school in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He married his high school sweetheart Oweta Gamble on July 2, 1950, whom he shared many wonderful years of marriage until her passing in June of this year. He went onto further his education at North Texas State, the University of Texas, and Louisiana Tech. He joined the United States Air Force and served his country both faithfully an honorably for 24 years retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. John then entered education teaching Air Science and founding the Air Force ROTC program for the AISD. He worked between Abilene High School and Copper. He had the opportunity to touch the lives of many students and see them be successful. He received much personal fulfilment in later years as those students would take time to return to say thank you.
John was a Christian and devoted Elder of Zion Lutheran Church in Abilene. In later years, much of his time was spent serving at Zion with his church family. He was also a member of the Air Force Association, Air Force Sergeants' Association, and Association of Texas Professional Educators. His passing brings to a close the life of a man who devoted himself wholly to whatever task he embarked on. He was a loving father who created many special memories with his daughters Deborah and Renee. In recent years, John and Oweta relocated to the DFW area to be closer to their daughters and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 71 years Oweta Reising; his brother, Henry Reising, and sister, Margaret Wright.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Gunter(Charlie) of Hurst; Renee Reising(Julie Torre); his grandsons, Jon Gunter(Robyn) and Paul Gunter(Molly); great-grandson, Finn Gunter; a host of other relatives and friends.
