Warren worked for BC Hydro for 36 years, managing several large construction projects throughout the province. After his retirement he was recognized by the premier of BC honoring his significant contribution to building BC.
Warren played many sports as a young man, he had fond memories playing in the Pacific Coast Junior Hockey league on the New Westminster Royals in 62-67 where the team won multiple championships. Whether you were a golf fan or not, Warren would tell you the story about that rainy June Day where he shot a “66” at Belmont Golf course, so proud in fact he left his wallet on the bumper and couldn’t pick up the tab for dinner.
His passion for people and life was unmatched and unconditional. Warren gave all the time he had to others, as a coach, mentor and friend to many. He was so proud of his family and loved being a part of their journey through life. Some of his favorite pastimes included, golfing, fishing, nature walks, skiing and any project that he could use his hands and mind to build. He found joy with family pets, the memories and stories of Warren’s dog Charlie Brown, son’s animals Kai, Whiskey and feeding Par a cookie would fill his heart. Warren was a true gentleman, values he received from his parents Arlie & Bill to the very last day; he didn’t choose to be kind he just WAS.
Warren wrote this Valentine’s poem in 1967 to his love and soon to be wife Lynda while on a BC Hydro job site in Hudson Hope as a young, 21-year-old man. Our family wants to share his humor and loving ways:
“How I miss you up here where its cold, dry and clear, I’m in my room all alone drinking a beer.My Lynda with such a beautiful figure, I know would stand out from the deer and moose in the snow. How I wish you were here to warm the cold nights and to witness with me all the wonderful sites. I can’t say I mind the bunkhouse and good meals but will trade it all gladly for our home on 4 wheels. Easter will soon be here and then comes our wonderful day, when we move to our trailer & inside we will play. While the cold winds are howling outside in the snow will be warm and cozy inside, this much I know. For a wonderful girl such as my future wife will make me happy for the rest of my life. Happy Valentine’s Day, from the new poet. All my love Warren”
“He asked for so little but gave so very much”
A celebration of life will be planned later and in leu of sending flowers a donation to the Dementia Alzheimer research society would be generous.
