It is with great sadness, yet great rejoicing, that we announce the passing of Mary Stobbe on September 27, 2011 at 91 years of age. Mary had her wish granted that she would die in her sleep and go to meet her Lord Jesus.
She was born on May 16, 1920 in Sagradowka, Russia to Peter and Helena Dueck, the youngest of 8. She had 5 sisters and two brothers. The family immigrated to Canada leaving behind 1 sister, Helen & her family, in 1926. They settled in the Oak Bluff, MB area. Mom loved horses and would help her Dad in the fields. They moved to Winnipeg in 1943.
Mary married Jake Stobbe in 1946 and they lived in Brandon, MB. They had their first born, Bob, and soon after, moved to Greendale, BC to start a dairy farm. Before the first milk cheque arrived, the floods arrived. God & the Red Cross took care of them.
Jake & Mary were members of the Greendale MB Church. Five more children were born in Greendale – Jim, Ed, Irene, Shirley & Al. They lived in Greendale for 25 years. After Jake’s fall from a roof, the farm needed to be sold and they moved to Abbotsford, where they lived the remainder of their lives. They became members of Bakerview Church and joined the Fellowship Choir. They had many fond memories of their time together.
Mary loved to crochet afghans and could always be found with one under way. Every child, grandchild & great-grandchild has at least one! Her bread was also something that was hard to resist! We loved the smell of fresh baked bread.
She leaves to mourn her loving husband, Jake, of 65 years; children Bob (Lynda), Ft. St. John, Jim (Carol), Kelowna, Ed (Rita), Ft. St. John, Irene (Vic) Abrahams, Abbotsford, Shirley (Lorne) Redekop, Abbotsford, and Al (Kora Lee), Prince George; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren (plus 1 on the way); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, all her siblings, and great-grandchild, Leah Stobbe.
We would like to express our thanks to all those who helped care for Mom during her last days. We are thankful that it was a short illness and that she did not suffer much.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 5 from 7:30 – 9 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Rd, Abbotsford. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 6 at 3:00 p.m. at Bakerview MB Church, 2285 Clearbrook Rd, Abbotsford.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Columbia Bible College (Mailing address: 2940 Clearbrook Rd, Abbotsford BC V2T 2Z8) would be gratefully appreciated.
