Irene was born in Valparaiso, Saskatchewan in 1929, the youngest of four children born to Garnet and Phyllis Hill. The family left Saskatchewan in 1934 for B.C. where they, with the help and support of friends, were able to find rental properties eventually buying a farm on Glenmore Road where they raised dairy cattle and grew raspberries and strawberries. Irene worked at several pharmacies over the years and spoke often of happy times at Lightbody Drugs in Mission and also at drug stores in Aldergrove and Salmon Arm.
Retiring in 1978 the farm was sold and Irene spent 44 years at her current home where she was able to remain until Christmas, 2022. The family is very grateful for the support of numerous friends and neighbours in Matsqui, Gifford and Ridgedale who have shown their care and support, especially during these past 10 years.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, Garnet and Phyllis and siblings Norman, Audrey and Jack (John). She is survived by her nieces Deirdre Ewert and Claudia Janzen, nephew Ross Hill and numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
As per her wishes, there will be no memorial service.
