Margaret was born on April 3, 1925, to Jacob and Katarina Klassen in the small village of Kolentarifka, in what is now Ukraine. In 1926, her family immigrated to Canada aboard the SS Marburn, moving to Dalmeny, Saskatchewan, and soon after to Watrous, Saskatchewan. In the fall of 1941, Margaret’s family moved to British Columbia, settling on a farm on the Sumas Prairie. In September 1948, she married John Janzen. As the years passed, they were blessed with four children, Shirley, Dennis, Harvey and Garry. In 1966, they moved to Abbotsford where John managed the Clearbrook Waterworks District until his death in March 1986. In September 1988, Margaret married Jacob Lepp becoming mother and grandmother to his family. Jake passed away in 2010. In 2016, Margaret moved to Tabor Court, where she enjoyed the great care provided Tabor’s staff. On February 2, 2022, Margaret fell and broke her hip. After surgery to replace her hip, she spent five weeks in hospital before being moved to Menno Home for what turned out to be a very short stay.
Margaret was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a masterful cook and baker. Her apple perischke, which she generously shared, are legendary. She was a woman with a deep faith in Jesus. For her, family was everything and she prayed faithfully for all her kids and grandkids.
Margaret is mourned by her children: Shirley and David Funk, Harvey Janzen, and Garry and Patti Janzen; by her stepchildren: Ruth and Barry Goetz, Lois and Ken Dyck, and Sharon Lepp; and by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
