Lorene Muriel Amonson Fleming was born on August 29, 1926, the youngest and only one of seven children to be born in a hospital. Growing up on a farm in Hagen, Saskatchewan during the depression, she never remembers going without, as her family surrounded her with love and security.
With her sister, Genevra, she graduated from Holy Family Hospital nurses' training in Prince Albert in 1948. She was working in the hospital in Red Deer, Alberta, when she met Bruce. They were married August 22, 1951. After living and working in Innisfail and Edmonton, Alberta; Pasadena, California; Port Alberni, BC; and 18 years in Davis, California, she retired with her husband to BC in 1983. She served as both a pastor's wife and nurse as well as rearing three children, Wava, Allen and Loris, during that time.
Lorene was the ultimate multi-tasker. Her gift of hospitality could whip up coffee, a meal or a guest room for anyone at the last minute. When sharing a recipe and asked for the preparation time on the card, she wrote, "It depends on how fast you move!" Though she didn't think so, she was very creative with sewing, china painting, and needlework projects. She loved to read and always put her Bible reading first in her life. Lorene had a memory like no other, except when it came to remembering the Jell-o salad in the refrigerator, intended for a holiday meal.
Lorene was a loyal friend, faithful to her family, adored her grandchildren and great grands, and lived a life of service to others. She is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Give of your best to the Master,
Give Him first place in your heart;
Give Him first place in your service;
Consecrate every part.
Give, and to you shall be given.
God His beloved Son gave;
Gratefully seeking to serve Him,
Give Him the best that you have.
