Judy was born on August 28, 1943, in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Jack and Rae and big sister Jo-Ann. In 1965, she met the love of her life John G. Smith in New Westminster, BC and they married in 1966. Judy’s pride and joy is her family: Husband of 56 years John, children Diane (Dwayne), Jo-Ann (Jarrod), Pete (Jolene) and Stu (Carlie) and precious grandchildren: Sarah, Cam, Stephanie, Michael, Isaac (Aliya), Jade, Jack, Pierce, Claire, Rose and Jace.
While Judy was raised as a city girl, she quickly adapted to be a country woman in 1976 when the family moved to Sumas Prairie, Abbotsford. Volunteer work was important to Judy and these included various positions at Upper Sumas Elementary, a member of the Upper Sumas W.I. and Mt Cheam and Orion Pony Clubs. As an active member of three Red Hat groups locally, she could always be counted on to join in the fun and be a good friend to anyone in need.
Her work with special needs students at SD34 from 1994 until her retirement in 2006 brought joy to her and she was always so proud of her students.
Travel was a passion of Judy’s including family trips to Oregon Coast each summer, trips abroad to Europe, Asia, Mexico and especially Hawaii.
Even as she braved a long battle with cancer, she remained positive and smiling, and never gave up hope.
Judy was always so grateful and appreciative for the wonderful care she received from the nurses and doctors at the Abbotsford Cancer Clinic, Abbotsford Hospital and the Dave Holmberg Hospice House. Judy will be greatly missed by her loving family and countless friends.
