On Nov. 7, 2024 Jenny Popma gently passed from this life, to her Forever Home in Heaven at the age of 98, surrounded by her children.
She was predeceased by her husband Alec in 2018, after almost 70 years of marriage. She knew grief in the loss of her sons-in-law Co Van Leeuwen & Alan Dyck, grandchildren Tyler Popma, Susie Sankar, and great grandchildren Brandon Sankar, and Malachi Bignell. She is survived by her children Edie (Ron), Eric (Jen), Ron (Ruth), Joanne, Allan (Linda), Marilyn, Roy (Elaine). She is also survived by a quiver full of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews that all brought so much joy (and knitting :)
Jenny immigrated to Canada with Alec in 1952 to realize his dreams of farming, and adjusted to a new life far from Holland and family. The dream came true, with faith in God, and endless hours of hard work and determination. They raised seven children, while farming in Matsqui and Sumas Prairie, and were deeply involved in their community and church.
Retirement blessed them with travel, time with family, and their cherished home overlooking Mill Lake. After Covid shrank her world, Jenny was welcomed into Marilyn's home on the farm in 2020. She blossomed in her sunset years, blessed to be part of a lively household of grandkids, farm animals and joyful noise. Jenny experienced joy in her freedom from isolation, and relished her many visits to the barn, the flower garden and watching the neighbourhood activity. Mom enjoyed many family gatherings, and the doors were always open for visitors. Mom's memories and words became locked away as time went on, but she always recognized the love that was lavished on her with her sweet smile.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Markey, his office staff, the Fraser Health Home Care Team, Kathy of Friends of the family, and the many other support workers, for their outstanding care. The family's deepest gratitude goes to Marilyn Dyck whose love and ingenuity created a special home for Mom.
Jenny leaves behind cherished memories, and will forever be in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be on Monday December 2, 2024 at 1 PM from Henderson’s Fraser Valley Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Rd, Abbotsford BC.
