It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Lewis McVige, who peacefully departed this life on November 30, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on October 25, 1938, David lived a life filled with love, adventure, and cherished connections.
David was surrounded in his final moments by his devoted daughters, Kimberly, Christine, and Michelle, who lovingly cared for him during his last year. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and joy through his grandchildren: Ryan (Meghan), Cory (Tina), Alyssa (Chantz), Aleesha (Scooby Doo), Madison, Aidan, Cheyanne, and Jackson, and his great-grandchildren: Annabelle, Brayden, Zechariah, Seth, Jedidiah, Lucy, Jaella and Haddie. His family will forever hold dear the memories of their cherished "Papa” and “Grandpa”.
David is survived by his beloved siblings, sisters Grace (Dan) and Gladys (Harry), and brother Arnold(Sandy), along with many loving nieces and nephews. He is reunited in eternal peace with his parents, Phyllis and George, and his brothers Roland, Floyd, and Douglas.
David’s early life was always an adventure. He had a bold entrepreneurial spirit, opening a restaurant aptly named Where the Boys Are, as well as running numerous small businesses. He also spent time traveling across the United States, taking on odd jobs and embracing the thrill of going wherever the day led him. In 1981, David further fueled his adventurous spirit by obtaining his private pilot’s license, an accomplishment that brought him immense pride and joy.
A true people person, David had an extraordinary gift for making friends wherever he went. Whether striking up a conversation at a local coffee shop or sharing a laugh at a square dance, he brought light and laughter to those around him. He found solace and joy in his daily walks around Mill Lake, a place where he connected with nature and his community. His love of square of square dancing kept him active and busy well until his early 80s.
David was a man always on the go, embracing life with an unwavering zest. In the last year of his life, David's health began to decline as he battled dementia. Despite these challenges, his vibrant spirit and love for life continued to inspire those around him. His family and friends treasure the memories of his humor, warmth, and adventurous nature, which shone through even in difficult times.
David’s family will gather in the spring to celebrate his remarkable life and the countless memories he created. His love, laughter, and kind spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada in David’s memory, to support those affected by this challenging disease.
