Bachan Singh Gill was born on January 17, 1930 in the village of Dhudike (Punjab, India) to the late Bhagwan Kaur and the late Sewa Singh Gill. He completed his grade 10 at Khalsa School Churchak. Then in 1948, he joined the Navy and spent 17 years in the Navy until 1965.
Bachan Singh Gill was a very brave man. While in the Navy in 1961, fighting for freedom for Goa, he was injured very badly while two of his colleagues beside him died in the war. He was a very committed, loyal, loving and caring man. He loved his daily walk and playing cards with his friends and family. For the grandchildren, his nickname was “sugar monster.”
Bachan Singh Gill was married to Surjit Kaur. He is survived by his two younger brothers, Jagtar Singh Gill (Ranjit Kaur) and Jarnail Singh Gill (Baljeet Kaur) and two sisters, Gurdev Kaur (Mukand Singh Khosa), and Kuljinder Kaur (Sewak Singh Brar). He is predeceased by two sisters, late Bachan Kaur (late Mega Singh Brar), and late Sham Kaur (late Jagir Singh Brar).
Bachan is also survived by his oldest son Surinder Singh Gill (Charanjit Kaur), middle son Sukhmander Singh Gill (Sharanjit Kaur), youngest son Balbir Singh Gill (Maninder Kaur) and only daughter Gurmeet Kaur (late Charanjit Singh Gill). He will be missed by Komal, Sumeet and other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and so many other close family members and dear friends.
