Audrey Sarah Vander Hoek

Her firm belief in God gave her peace upon her cancer diagnosis and supported her as she weakened.

Audrey was the only daughter born to the late Kryn & Adriana Arendse and enjoyed the affections of her 4 older brothers, Kryn, Jack, Adrian and Art. She married Ed Vander Hoek when she was 21 years old and together they loved and raised 5 children. They traversed the highs and lows of life together for 27 years before Ed passed away in 1986.

Mom found meaning in life by giving to her family, to her church community, and to many friends and neighbors who needed encouragement or assistance with such things as shopping and appointments. Mom reached out to countless people through her card ministry as a way to show she cared about them.

Mom was a very detailed person and a great organizer. She loved a good time, often taking the initiative to plan games and activities with her friends.

Mom was a small woman but has left a big impact on the lives of many people.

Audrey is survived by her children: Dianne & Dave Hornor, Joyce Vander Hoek, Mel and Laura Vander Hoek, Karen & Glen Bruneski, Ed Vander Hoek; by her grandchildren: Andrew (Sarah), Charis (Nathan), Elyce, Ellen (Cole), Eric, Josh; by her great-grandchild: Amory. She is also survived by two brothers and their wives: Adrian & Hermina Arendse and Art & Jenny Arendse; by her sister-in-law Johanna Arendse; and by her husbands’ family: Tina Vander Hoek, Mel & Della Vander Hoek, Ted & Willy Vander Hoek, Sam & Grace Post. She is also remembered by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Ed, her parents Kryn & Audrey Arendse, her parents-in-law Oscar & Leona Vander Hoek, her brothers Kryn Arendse & Jack Arendse, her sister-in-law Betty Arendse, and her brother-in-law Bert Vander Hoek.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 2 pm at Gateway Community Christian Reformed Church, 2884 Gladys Avenue, Abbotsford.
