History

Monticello Memory Gardens was founded in 1930. We have been proud to be the Charlottesville cemetery that generations of families have chosen because of our care and attention to detail.

The Thomas Jefferson connection

Our grounds are located less than 1 mile from Monticello, the home of our 3rd president, Thomas Jefferson. Our gardens border the Thomas Jefferson Foundation property. Monticello was the pet project and elaborate home of Thomas Jefferson. In fact, the president loved Monticello so much that he is buried there.

For more than 8 decades, our enchanting memorial park has provided Charlottesville-area families with many burial and cremation memorialization options. We understand that families may want additional space for the next generations to come. Monticello Memory Gardens owns many acres of undeveloped land to help ensure that a family's heritage can be continued here for many years into the future.
