History

In 1920, when Victor J. Mongeau opened his funeral home on Girouard Street in Saint-Hyacinthe, in-home visitation was a strong tradition. To establish credibility and boost our reputation outside the city and county, our founder built the business on exceptional customer service to truly support grieving families.

When Victor died in 1932, his son, René J. Mongeau, took over. At that time, funeral traditions shifted to visitation in funeral homes. In response, René took the opportunity to develop family-oriented services. The funeral home experienced a sustained growth under his leadership.

When René retired in 1964, he sold Résidence funéraire Mongeau to Robert Boutin who had been a professional embalmer in Montreal for 17 years. The Mongeau Funeral Home kept our name, as well as the family tradition of comforting client families. As a matter of fact, we were one of the first funeral homes in Quebec whose funeral agreements included only those services that were being used.

In 1984, Robert’s son, Denis, took over. Under his leadership, the company added a funeral home in Saint-Pie-de-Bagot in 1985. Then in 1996, in order to offer a wider range of services and programs, we joined the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery providers.
