It also has up-to-date technology, so playlists and tribute videos can be played to perfection. Need us to create a video? We take care of it all.
Not only does the team at Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home Inc. understand that losing a loved one is a difficult experience, we also know that every life is unique and every family is different. Cremation in Boyertown
There are many options for cremation in Berks County—and they're not all equal. We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our all-inclusive pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none.
More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:
- a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
- a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
- a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.
Whether you wish for cemetery placement, scattering or even something more momentous, we are here to help. From the depths of the sea at Neptune Memorial Reef to outer space on a Celestis Memorial Spaceflight, the options are truly endless.

History
The history of Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home Inc. dates back to 1874, when a furniture maker named Daniel C. Brumbach began providing funeral services. The effort was successful, and in 1882, Daniel moved the business from 112 E. Philadelphia Ave. to 201 E. Philadelphia Ave. in Boyertown, Pennsylvania. He was also one of the organizers of the Boyertown Burial Casket Company and believed that caskets should be manufactured before they were needed.
In 1905, Daniel turned the business over to his son-in-law, James J. Brown. James was one of the first people to train in the art and science of embalming. This became particularly valuable after the 1908 Opera House fire, when embalming was used to help aid in the long process of identifying the victims.
In 1933, James passed away. His widow, Ella, oversaw the business until selling it to Lewis B. Cauffman in 1935. He later moved the funeral home to 34 Warwick St.
Growth and expansion
In 1936, Lewis sold the funeral home to an employee named Linwood W. Ott. In an effort to expand the business, Linwood purchased the house next door. During this time, Linwood and his wife, Mildred, operated a second business designing and building custom awnings and shades. In 1952, Linwood purchased a Victorian mansion at 111 N. Reading Ave. He added on and redesigned it in 1965. That's where the funeral home stands to this day.
When Linwood retired in 1979, Terry L. Starr bought the business. He also purchased the St. John’s Parsonage at 115 N. Reading Ave., in 1983. Today that's an arrangement office and casket selection room. After a fire in 1994, the whole funeral home was remodeled.
Building the future
In 1995, Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home Inc. joined the Dignity Memorial network of funeral, cremation and cemetery providers. Terry and his wife, Charlene, remained an integral part of the business until their retirement in 2004. We are proud to continue to offer the warm service you'd expect from a locally owned business and benefits no other provider can.
