At Westminster Cemetery, we combine an old, turn-of-the-century style cemetery with the modern choices today's families seek. Much like the current day architecture of Philadelphia, we have preserved the cemetery’s history while integrating updated features. To better meet your needs, we offer affordable options for traditional ground burial, as well as cremation and above ground entombment. We have a community mausoleum, private estate areas, family columbaria, wall niches, cremation benches, several cremation gardens and some incredibly polished granite memorials.

Honoring family memories

For well over a century, the families of the surrounding Montgomery County and Philadelphia communities have placed their trust and confidence in us when it comes to honoring their loved one's memories. We continue that tradition with special events for Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and Veterans Day. We also host an annual Christmas luminary service.

History

Founded by the Danish Catholic Church in the mid-1860s and reopened as a non-denominational cemetery in 1894, Westminster Cemetery has a long and storied tradition of service to the Bala Cynwyd community.

Notable burials

Overlooking the peaceful waters of the Schuylkill River and the hamlets of Manayunk and Roxborough, our picturesque cemetery grounds are the final resting place for many distinguished Pennsylvania residents. Among our dignitaries are: First Lieutenant Orson W. Bennett, a soldier who received the Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor; John Francis Glenn, the commander of the 23rd Pennsylvania regiment at Gettysburg; Charles Elmer Hires, a pharmacist who was one of the developers of root beer; U.S. Congressman Robert Edward Difenderfer; Albert Schoenhut, the inventor of the toy piano and Dustin Kallenbach, an evangelist and author.

From our beautiful turn-of-the-century private family mausoleums and underground crypts to our granite obelisks and hand-sculpted stone memorials, our cemetery is steeped in history. Even long before the property became a cemetery, the Valleyview and Riverview sections of Westminster provided the residents and visitors of southeastern Pennsylvania a place for serene reflection and incredible views.
