Founded in 1928 by N.W. Garrett and his wife, Mary Moody Garrett, Garrett Funeral Home is one of the oldest funeral homes in Waynesville, serving Haywood, Jackson, Madison and Buncomb counties. Our funeral home offers a setting where guests feel at home as they relax in rocking chairs on our covered porch. To add to our appeal, we maintain landscaping with colorful flowers and trees. We also offer on-site parking.

In our lobby stands an antique grandfather clock from the original funeral home. Elegantly decorated in warm colors, our 2 arrangement rooms and 4 private visitation rooms offer solace to families making final arrangements for their loved ones. Our selection room features a variety of caskets, urns and an array of personalized items.

Chapel amenities

Our chapel at Garrett Funeral Home, which comfortably seats 250 guests and can be used for visitation services, contains cushioned pews, an organ, a piano and large screens to display video tributes. We also offer a private family room adjacent to the chapel.

Funeral planning assistance

At Garrett Funeral Home, we provide knowledge, experience and assistance to families—from planning the service to catering the post-funeral reception. We encourage families to take advantage of our options for personalizing their loved one’s funeral services, such as displaying pictures or personal items.

For example, through our Fondest Memories program, guests are asked to write about favorite memories of their loved one, which we compile into a scrapbook and present to the family as a keepsake. This choice is among many ways families can customize their funeral service and bring everyone together.

Garrett Funeral Home also offers a variety of cremation and memorial service options. We can arrange memorial services at our funeral home or at other locations in the Waynesville area. Scattering of cremated remains can also be arranged through our funeral home.

Because we believe in caring for our friends and neighbors, Garrett Funeral Home is active in community outreach. We host an Easter sunrise service, a Memorial Day service, the Memorial Tree program in December and the December Celebration of Remembrance service—when we adorn the nearby Waynesville cemetery with a gorgeous display of 1,500 luminaries.

Our funeral home is also available to community service organizations, church groups and support groups for meeting space. Garrett’s team members devote many volunteer hours to civic organizations and programs that assist senior and handicapped citizens, including local nursing home outreach.
