When Paul F. Becker purchased Halsey Funeral Home in the 1950s, he launched into his new venture with one thing top of mind: to provide Bergen County, New Jersey, families with dignified, affordable funeral and cremation services. That is the principle by which Becker Funeral Home still operates to this day.

Our Pascack Valley funeral home
Once a functioning farmhouse, Becker Funeral Home is a landmark in Westwood. The 2-story white home on Kinderkamack Road is a place you might pass by often. The size of the building, its stately Victorian facade and the sweeping green front lawn inspire warm feelings. Our funeral home is a picturesque place to celebrate life.
The first floor of the funeral home comprises 5 rooms. We use these flexible spaces for both visitations and funeral and memorial services. We hold family conferences in the basement of the home, where we also have caskets, vaults and monuments displayed. Three Becker Funeral Home employees live with their families in apartments on the second floor of the house. That’s right, there is literally someone on site for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If that seems a little bit unusual these days, it’s because it is—and it’s among the many ways we uphold traditional values and provide a classic range of services to the families who choose us for their funeral care.
Personalized funerals and memorials
From our converted Victorian farmhouse in Westwood, the Becker Funeral Home team takes care of you, focusing on your family and the life being celebrated. We specialize in personalization, taking time to get to know your loved one, discovering what made that person tick and creating a memorable memorial or funeral service that truly reflects the life lived.
How does that play out?
Whether you are seeking a simple cremation service; a full traditional funeral with a graveside memorial and cemetery burial; or a modern celebration with a band and a send-off that reflects the passions of your loved one, we go the extra mile to make it happen.
Want a balloon release? You got it. A horse and carriage processional? A funeral canoe instead of a casket? A veterans service with full military honors? Yes, yes and yes. From a bluebird urn to a blue marble monument, if you can imagine it, we can do it.
Our team are experienced, compassionate professionals who listen to what you say and execute every detail with exquisite care. From creating a multimedia presentation celebrating a life to arranging for a person’s favorite flowers to hiring musicians, they have the knowledge and resources to fully personalize a funeral or memorial service and help ensure an enduring legacy.
Cremation services
We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our transparent pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none.
More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:
- a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
- a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
- a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.
For those who wish for a more momentous memorial, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.
There are many options for cremation—and they're not all equal. Here's what you can expect when you choose us for your loved one's cremation:
- Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
- Exclusive custody of your loved one. We use only crematories owned and operated by Dignity Memorial® providers or trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
- Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.

History
Paul F. Becker purchased Halsey Funeral Home in the early 1950s. The funeral home was located on Center Avenue in Westwood, New Jersey. After several years, he changed the name to Halsey-Becker Funeral Home.
For decades, Paul worked hard in the funeral business, providing Pascack Valley families with high-quality, affordable funeral and cremation services, and he built up a great deal of trust in the community. When he was ready to expand, in the 1980s, he bought Lyons Funeral Home, which occupied a Victorian farmhouse on Kinderkamack Road.
Paul made extensive renovations to the property and added state-of-the-art upgrades while keeping the charm of the original 19th-century house. It took him 3 years to bring the property up to his high standards, and once it was complete, he changed the name to reflect his own: Becker Funeral Home. That impressive location is where we are today, providing care that we believe Paul would be proud of.
Becker Funeral Home is a member of the Dignity Memorial® network, the largest group of funeral, burial, cremation and cemetery service providers in North America. Paul claimed quiet dignity and personalized service as his hallmarks, and we uphold that tradition.
