History

Our roots trace back to the 20th century when Thomas J. McHugh originally established the funeral home.  He had been employed for more than 10 years by his uncle, Thomas J. Turley, at Sullivan & Turley Funeral Home. Upon Mr. Turley’s death in 1942, Mr. McHugh was appointed the manager.

A Manchester funeral home for everyone

The funeral home served the Irish Catholic community of Manchester with distinction and was located on Manchester Street for several decades. Mr. McHugh’s son, Kevin T. McHugh, joined in the operation of the business, and Mr. McHugh remained active until his death in 1976. Kevin was assisted in the business by Maurice April and, together, they grew the funeral home to serve families of all faiths, beliefs, cultures and backgrounds.

A growing business

Soon the business had outgrown the older building and a new funeral home was constructed in 1983. The new funeral home was built at the corner of the Hanover and Beech streets. Kevin passed away in July 1992 and Maurice assumed the role of manager until his retirement in 2001.
