History

Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home in Woodbury, Minnesota, provides funeral services that honor and respect your loved one. Throughout our long history, we have grown and innovated to meet the changing needs of our communities.

Our Woodbury funeral home

Sitting area at Wulff Woodbury Funeral HomeIn 1884, 24-year-old German immigrant August Wulff founded what has become the oldest continuing business on St. Paul’s east side. Although a cabinet maker by trade, August embraced his calling of funeral service in our rapidly growing community.

In those days, there were no funeral homes as we know them today, so August served the surrounding communities from his house at East 7th Avenue and Bradley Avenue (now Payne). He made his own caskets, transporting them by horse with wagon (or sleigh in the wintertime) to the families he served.

As more people required the assistance of Wulff Family Mortuary, he recognized the need for a new location. The new location at 895-897 East 7th Avenue quickly became known as the Wulff Block. In 1911, August changed the funeral home's name to A.L. Wulff and Son Undertakers when his son, Arthur, joined the business. August retired in 1925, and Arthur decided the business would discontinue selling furniture and focus its efforts entirely on funeral services in St. Paul.

Expanding to better serve the community

In 1934, Arthur’s son, Owen, joined our family-owned funeral home. In 1964, Wulff Family Mortuary moved to a more central location to better serve the east side community. The new funeral home, Crestwood Park Mortuary, located at 1485 White Bear Ave., remains an attractive, modern and spacious facility.

Gregory Wulff became the 4th generation to join the family firm. Under his direction, the business grew dramatically to help people in more communities with their funeral services.

In 1988, Gregory purchased and completely refurbished the Godbout Mortuary at 560 West 7th Ave., and in 1990, Woodlane Mortuary was erected in Woodbury at 2195 Woodlane Drive to meet growing demand in the southeastern suburbs.

As we continue our legacy of care, everyone at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home is honored to uphold our heritage and commitment to St. Paul.
