With a population of just 2,500, Meeker is home to people who have been kin and neighbors for generations. Chances are very good that when someone comes through our funeral home doors, we’ve known them their whole lives. We already have a connection to them and hold them in our hearts. We’re not just funeral providers: We’re your friends. And when we care for our friends, our first job is to love them.

Situated on 6th Street, Grant Mortuary & Crematory – Meeker is a comfortable place to plan a funeral and hold a viewing. Though we do not have a chapel, we will work with any church or nearby venue, and we are well-versed in planning outdoor services that take advantage of the natural beauty of the White River Valley. From accommodating all types of religious rites to planning a full-blown celebration with music, drinks and more, there’s almost nothing we can’t do.

A private crematory in Craig

Cremation is an increasingly common request, but not everyone knows that there are many cremation options. From a cremation without a funeral service to a cremation with a memorial that follows, we help you understand the variety of arrangements that are possible.

Grant Mortuary & Crematory – Meeker does not have a crematory on-site, but the Craig location does. That gives you the peace of mind that your loved one never leaves our care.

History

I.J. Robacker opened a furniture store and funeral home in Craig, Colorado, in 1919. He operated the funeral home for 35 years until selling it to John and Lorene Zobel. The couple changed the name to Zobel Mortuary and operated the business together until 1976, when their sons, Bruce and William, took over.

Bruce bought his brother’s interest in 1977. He sold the funeral home in 1980 to Owen Grant. Owen changed the name of the Craig funeral home to Grant Mortuary.

Realizing that the families of Meeker and Rio Blanco County needed a convenient place to plan funerals and cremations, Owen opened Grant Mortuary & Crematory – Meeker at 345 6th St.

Rick Allnutt and Susan Hughes purchased both locations in August 2014 and Grant Mortuary & Crematory Meeker became part of the Allnutt family of funeral homes, which today belong to the Dignity Memorial® network, the largest group of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers in North America.
