Survived by brother Ken, his wife and family, sister Brenda, Aunt Janelle and her family, niece Louise, niece & nephew Aimee & Chris and their families; beloved cousin Coleen & his Aunt Beth, cousin Becky and her family, and other cousins on his father's family. He was named for his grandfather and a close family friend.
William was born to Marion & Arthur Rice on Friday the 19th of March in Phoenix, Arizona. He moved from there to Massachusetts shortly afterwards, one of many moves in his life. By the time he settled in Yuma Arizona he had lived in 14 states, traveled in 42 of the lower 48 states, and visited many of our Nations most famous historical landmarks. He developed a love for history, reading and sharing his insights and knowledge with everyone he met. He was a quiet gentle soul who bravely battled his various medical issues. His love of history took him to a joy of gaming and he encountered many a kindred spirit online.
His joy and sorrow in life centered around family and he was proud of every one of them. He shared his life with many people and many pets.
One of his greatest memories were meeting some of his heroes, including Brigadier General Chuck Yeager, General James Doolittle, Colonel Paul Tibbets, and Major Gregory Boyington. He visited West Point, the Air Force Academy, and stood on the Deck of the USS Constitution with his father. He also travelled with him to the Air Races in Reno, Nevada. An avid WWII military historical devote, he knew all the battles and loved that he was a proud relative of US Veterans. Yet, he was sad that he was unable to serve because of asthma and deafness in one ear. He loved school but struggled in it, leaving it during his Junior year, and said it was his one regret. He graduated High School while attending Job Corps where he learned the trade of carpentry like his grandfather Kenneth.
His family is proud to say that William will be remembered for his familial love, his passionate belief in his country, and his love for animals. He had numerous occupations during his life from carpenter, to dog breeder, as an extra in the Star Trek movie "The Voyage Home", then as a writer of science fiction and fantasy. A published author of several books, many dedicated to those he loved and who touched his life; his publications are in print and online. He was writing the day he slipped away from this earth and died peacefully in his sleep. He once told his sister that he got his love of words from his parents and family members. He wrote about the many issues close to his heart and touched many lives. A devoted brother and uncle who is finally at peace; he is restored in body and spirit, spending time with his deceased family members and devoted pets in eternity. He will be missed by the many souls he encountered in his life.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared for the Rice family.
