Richard Swanson, age 79 died at home on Thanksgiving night, surrounded by his loving family, just as he wished. He was born in Willimantic, Connecticut on September 2, 1937 to Willis and Selma (Clauson) Swanson.
Dick leaves his life partner and wife of 55 years, Phyllis (Kirk) Swanson, two sons David (Allyson) of Carlsbad, CA and Paul of Yuma and daughter-in-law Dianne Swanson of Phoenix, AZ. He also leaves three granddaughters, Katelyn Swanson, Alexis and Kenzi Bruno as well as his sister, Judith (Stuart) Gadbois of Salem, Connecticut and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by his eldest son, Karl, who left an empty space in his heart, his younger sister, Huldah Osorio and his parents.
In 1980, Swanson retired as a bulk fertilizer Blend Plant Manager for Agway Inc. in Connecticut and with his family moved to Yuma, Arizona. He retired from Crop Production Services in 2001.
In his retirement, Dick continued his lifelong interest in agriculture and began new hobbies of cooking, refinishing antiques and crafting mesquite furniture for friends and family.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11am in Johnson Mortuary Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make a gift to Hospice of Yuma or St. Paul's Episcopal Church Women. Both organizations have served us beyond limits during his illness and we are so grateful.
