Jim was born in Burley, Idaho on April 19, 1945, to Carl and Clara Hinz. He graduated from Burley High School where he was a member of the football team. He attended the University of Idaho, leaving to join the U.S. Navy in 1965. He was a Plank member of VA147, serving two tours on the USS Ranger during the Vietnam War.
After leaving the Navy, he returned to Burley where he married Linda Jensen. They had a daughter Crystal and a son Jim. In 1986, the family moved to Yuma. He worked at Yuma Proving Grounds where he worked until he retired. He was a lifetime member of the ELKS, serving in all chairs. He won numerous first place awards at ritual contests.
He loved fishing, camping, pheasant hunting and the outdoors. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings. Jim and Linda liked to travel and enjoyed several cruises.
He is survived by his wife Linda of 53 years, Crystal, Jim (Theresa) and grandchildren James, Ethan, Maddox and Lilly, and sisters, Patricia, and Kathleen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill. He will be remembered as a husband, father, brother, favorite uncle, and a good friend to everyone he met.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where services will be held, Saturday, September 17th at 11:00 a.m.
And as Jim would say, “That’s all folks.”
