George Thomas Gallaher was born to Gail and Maine Gallaher on March 2nd 1933 in Somerton, AZ. George was the youngest of five children, with twin brothers Leland and Leslie and sisters Margaret and Rosalie. Raised in a rural farming community, and after having graduated from Yuma High School as Student Body President, George graduated from the University of Arizona with a business degree.
Upon graduation, George married his high school sweetheart, Winnie Guinn. After George’s 4-year stint in the US Army, which stationed the newlyweds in Augusta, GA, they settled in Somerton, AZ where George began his 26- year career with the Barkley Company.
George and Winnie had sons Daniel and Timothy and daughter Amy and enjoyed an active family life revolving around church, sports, Colorado River recreation, and many fun road trips through the western US.
After his first career in farming, during which George had become President of the Barkley Company, he transitioned to a career in commercial real estate. During his career, George also served on the County Planning and Zoning Commission as well as on the Sturges Family Trust Board, where he contributed his expertise to administering charitable donations to high school seniors as well as various community needs.
George was known for his affable, fun-loving nature, always having a joke or story at the ready to entertain his audience. He enjoyed tennis, running, fishing, and playing poker. George prided himself on water-skiing – successfully, at least once per summer.
Later in life, George attended Churches of Christ in Yuma and San Diego, as well as Community Christian Church in the Foothills. George was also a weekday regular of his “Breakfast Club” with his friends at the Muffin Shop and later at Eddie’s Grill.
