He graduated from Yuma High and then attended several universities. He applied his Juris Doctorate to 33 years of practice in Tucson. The last 11 years, Doug took immense please in teaching a course at the James E. Rogers School of Law, mentoring first year students at the law school, and hiring law students as part-time law clerks to broaden their experience. He kept in touch with many of those students through the years. After a 2-year battle, with 3 recurrences of cancer, he is relieved to find a law partner to whom he could turn over his practice. Not surprisingly, she is a student from his class who also clerked for him. Doug was predeceased by his parents, “C.C>” Par and Collen Newman. He is survived to two aunts, Kettie (Collette) Parks of Yuma and Ann Parks of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and by eight wonderful cousins. He is also survived by many good friends who impressed him with their selflessness and caring, including Ryan Thomsen, Patrice Ryan, and Rafi Mottaheddeh.
A Funeral Mass with be held at 11:30 a.m. on January 20th at Immaculate Conception Church at 505 South Avenue B, Yuma, Arizona with Msgr. Richard W. O’Keeffe officiating.
Burial will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Yuma, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
