Mario A. Mazzei, a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Tuesday September 2, 2014 at the Frances Schervier Home in Riverdale. He was 89 years old. He was born on August 19, 1925 to Giovanni and Giulia Morgante Mazzei in Yonkers where he was raised and educated. Mr. Mazzei was a house painter for the International Brotherhood of Painters Union for forty years until retirement in 1987. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was a Pharmacist’s Mate 3rd Class and was stationed in Okinawa. He received the Presidential Unit Citation, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, the American Theatre Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon. Mr. Mazzei was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He enjoyed artistic painting, gardening and hunting. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Katherine (nee Heine) Mazzei who died in September 2006. Survivors include four sons, George and Mario Mazzei both of Eastchester, Gerard and Alfred Mazzei both of Yonkers and one daughter, Cathy Braia of Yonkers. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Nicholas, Alfred, Alphonse and Vincent Mazzei. According to his children, “He was a cherished member of our family”. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday 4-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Friday September 5th at 10am. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery.
