Detective James J. McCabe, Jr died on August 14, 2012. He was 52 years old. He was born February 21, 1960 to James J Sr and Katherine Anne McCabe in Yonkers, New York. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Gorton High School, where he was a standout quarterback. On May 1,1987 James was sworn in as a Yonkers Police Officer. This began a highly decorated career. He began his career in patrol at the 3rd precinct on Riverdale Avenue. His passion and hard work for law enforcement lead his career to the Warrant Squad. He was detailed to the FBI‘s Violent Crimes Task Force. As his outstanding career progressed he was appointed to Detective on January 14, 2002. In December 2010 he was transferred to work in the highly Specialized Intelligence Unit. During his notable career he received Honorable Mentions, Journal News Awards, Commendations, Certificates of Police Excellence and Unit Citations. James was not only an outstanding police detective, but an athlete as well. He played on the PBA softball team, eventually organizing the Softball B Team ,continuing to play and coach. His love for football lead him to coach the Carmel Chiefs for several years. A diehard Yankee and Jets fan like no other. James is survived by his devoted wife and best friend Marybeth and his loving son Patrick. He is also survived by his parents James J. Sr. and Katherine Anne McCabe, his brother Thomas McCabe, Tara Parness, Eileen McCabe, Mother-in Law Barbara Condon Ryan and many in-laws, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and will miss him greatly. Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday August 19th from 2-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday August 20th at 11am in Sacred Heart Church. Cremation service will follow at Ferncliff Crematory Chapel, Hartsdale, N.Y.
