He was born on August 19, 1930 in Yonkers, NY. He was the son of Thomas V. Dalton and Nora (Fitzgerald) Dalton.
Jim was also a loving son, brother, uncle and friend who was devoted to God and Country. He was a member of St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church in Hastings on Hudson, NY.
Jim was educated at St. Joseph's School in Yonkers, attended Cardinal Hayes High School and graduated from Gorton High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having trained to be a Commando.
He began his over 50 year career in the toy business at Tim and Tom McHugh Bros Toy Store in Yonkers, NY. He was the owner and proprietor of Smiling Sunny's Toy Center in Staten Island, NY and The Toy House in Hartsdale, NY until his retirement.
He married the love of his life, Eleanor (Thumm) Dalton and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Barbara Dalton of Pawley's Island, SC; his daughters Eleanor Marie "NiNi" Dalton and Mary Dalton of Hastings on Hudson, NY; his daughter and son-in-law Theresa and Michael Conway of Prospect, CT; his grandchildren Michael K. Conway II of Bronx, NY; Emma T. Conway and her fiancé Kevin Daigle of Brooklyn, NY; his extended children - niece Geri Ann Stiles and nephew Matthew Dalton; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, his brother Richard "Duke" Dalton and nephew Donald Dalton.
For many years he was a dedicated volunteer as a Coach and Officer at the Pacoy Boy's Club and Colts Boy's Club and volunteered for the Midnight Run to feed the homeless.
Jim will be remembered for his Catholic faith, his devotion to his family, and his dedication to the Legion of Mary, The Altar Society, and the Padre Pio Society.
He leaves his family and friends with a lifetime of loving memories.
Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 4-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Matthew’s Church on Monday March 25th at 10am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Charitable contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
