Barbara Ann Brown, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and loyal friend departed this world in peace for everlasting paradise on March 23, 2022.
Barbara Ann Faulk was born on March 21, 1940, in Yonkers, New York to Lucille and Robert Faulk, Sr. Barbara was the oldest of 18 children. Her siblings adored and honored her. She loved her family and in her unique and honest way she imparted wisdom and guidance to her younger siblings and to the younger generation of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Barbara was blessed with a God-given gift to create art in the form of portraits, still-life drawings, sculpting, and calligraphy. At the age of 16, as a junior high school student, she won a contest to create the school motto. Hold High the Torch of Learning, is forever engraved on the facade of Hawthorne Junior High School in Yonkers, NY. Barbara received a proclamation from the City of Yonkers for this achievement.
Barbara also had a beautiful singing voice, and as a young woman was a member of a singing group called, The Vestelles. This quartet performed at the iconic Apollo Theater and went on to record a song entitled Come Home.
On March 14, 1959, Barbara married the love of her life, Robert L. Brown. They were inseparable and enjoyed 48 years of marital bliss until Robert’s untimely death in 2006. Their union produced eight beautiful children: LaMont, Eileen, Clayton, Marcella, Alicia, Regina, Edward, and Danita. She loved being a mother and devoted her life to raising her children and sharing her years of wisdom with her grandchildren.
On March 17, 2022, just days before her passing, Barbara was predeceased by her daughter, Marcella Brown-Jackson. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Robert, her parents Lucille and Robert Faulk Sr., her sister, Jacqueline, and seven brothers – Robert Jr., Ronald, Alphonso, John Wayne, Phillip, Kevin, and Keith.
She is survived by seven children – LaMont, Eileen, Clayton, Alicia, Regina, Edward and Danita. Her eight sisters – Patricia, Carol, Gail, Faith, Debra, Maureen, Kathleen, Yvonne, and her brother, Victor. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of family and friends.
Queen, you now take your place on the throne. Your legacy of love will last forever.
Visiting hours will be on Saturday March 26th from 12 to 4pm with a funeral service at 3pm. Graveside service and interment will take place in Oakland Cemetery on Monday March 28th at 12pm.
