Scarborough – Louise Marie Musial, 77, of North Yarmouth and formerly of Gray, died June 11, 2010 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a period of declining health. She was born in Rockland, ME on September 18, 1932, one of 17 children of Edna Ruth (Lathrop) and John H. Skinner. She graduated from Rockland High School, Class of 1951.
On May 12, 1956 she married a “Coastie” by the name of Edwin S. Musial who was a lighthouse keeper off the coast of Maine. Throughout his 24 years in the Coast Guard he had unaccompanied tours and dutifully wrote Louise every day and mailed a package of letters once a month to her at her “duty station” in Maine.
At various times she worked at different jobs but came into her own when she took CNA courses at Westbrook College. Her first assignment was at the Jewish Home and then as a private duty nurse for the remainder of her career.
Louise was known to have a green thumb, maintaining a huge garden, and was past president of the North Yarmouth Garden Club. She was a member of the PTA, Extension and the Senior Citizens of North Yarmouth and Gray.
She could do a jigsaw puzzle in “no time” and she could “cut a rug”. At any family occasion, if there was dancing, Louise would be one of the first on the floor and the last to leave. She was dedicated to her family and especially to her grandchildren.
Louise is survived by her daughter Carol A. Andrews of North Yarmouth and her four sons: Ricky A. Musial of Old Orchard Beach; Stephen J. Musial of Freeport; Bryan R. Musial of Lewiston; Robert E. Musial of SC; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Maxine, Ruth, Priscilla, Darlene and Alaide; her brothers: Freddy, Richard, Leslie, Wayne and John; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edwin; her daughter Marion Fitts; her sister: Polly, Betty and Bonnie and her brothers: Leeland and Robert.
Visiting hours will be on Monday June 14 from 6 – 8 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. The funeral service will also be at the funeral Home on Tuesday June 15 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
