Falmouth - John Thomas (Jack) Kelly, Jr., 63, of Falmouth, Maine, died peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a long illness with his family at his side. Jack was born in Worcester, MA, eldest son of the late John T. and Anita (Leahey) Kelly. He lived in Portland, ME, Westbrook ME, and then Falmouth for the past 40 years.
Jack attended St. Joseph School then Cheverus High School in Portland. He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973. Upon his return he graduated from SMVTI and then from the University of Southern Maine with a B.S. degree in Vocational Technology in 1981. Jack worked at a variety of companies but spent most of his work life as an independent carpenter and contractor, after forming Kelly Construction Company. He was the first contractor in Maine to assemble a modular condominium project.
Jack coached his kids’ Little League teams and served on the Board. Being a skilled craftsman he assisted his two sons with constructing their own homes. Throughout his life Jack was always present to provide support and guidance. Jack and Renee treasured the family closeness and time with their grandchildren. They also enjoyed planting and gardening on their farm property. He loved taking walks on his property and had a keen sense of his surroundings. He followed the Boston-based sports teams and faithfully read the daily papers.
Jack is survived by his wife of 43 years, Renee (McLaughlin) Kelly; his two sons: Sean C. and his wife Desiree and Todd M. and his wife Bethany, both of Falmouth; three brothers: Patrick W. of Arlington, TX, Michael J. and Peter J. of Charlotte, NC; three sisters: Mary T. Guerin of San Diego, CA, Anne M. of Chicago, IL and Theresa M. of Washington DC; three beloved grandchildren: Benjamin, Devin and Abigail; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A time of gathering and celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Friday May 30 from 5 to 7 P.M. at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Saturday, May 31, at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth Foreside, ME. Burial will follow in Blanchard Cemetery, Falmouth, ME.
