YARMOUTH, ME – Donald M. Harding, 75, died in a tragic car accident on Wednesday, Dec. 11, in Brunswick, ME.
Known by the nickname “Nipper,” Harding was born Jan. 5, 1949, the son of the late Frances A. Harding Jr. and Edith M. Harding of Dover, MA. Harding graduated from Noble and Greenough School in 1968 and Colby College in 1972.
Harding is survived by his beloved wife, Mettie Whipple and her children Arthur Schiro and Stephanie Schiro and her wife Trish Mckeough and their children Asher and Rylen, son Ben Harding and wife Kim and granddaughter Camille of Winchester, MA, son Evan Harding of Lewiston, ME, and sisters Harriet M. Harding of Kennebunkport, ME, and Edith D. Harding of Warren, ME, and seven nieces and nephews. Nipper also leaves behind his beloved cat Mackworth.
He was predeceased by sister Lucy A. Hallowell of Camden, ME.
Nipper loved playing hockey, watching hockey, and talking about hockey as it was one of his greatest passions. He loved gardening and playing in the yard with his grandchildren and the children in the neighborhood. Nipper loved sailing, the ocean, and spending time on Vinalhaven with family and friends from the island. Nipper also loved singing; he was in many choirs, had recordings as a solo artist, and purely loved the art of music. It brought him great joy to help other recovering alcoholics on their journey.
A memorial service will be held at the First Parish Congressional Church 116 Main St, Yarmouth, ME on Saturday, December 21st at 11am. Everyone is welcome to attend.
