Vincent attended Holy Rosary Grade School and Marquette HS – class of 1949. Throughout high school he worked at Labrees Market in Moxee then attended Barber School. He worked in his Dad’s Barbershop along with his brother Lester. In 1951, he was drafted and served in the Army during the Korean War till 1953 when he was honorably discharged. He returned to Moxee where he worked in the hops for Ervin Sauve and Jack Bledsoe’s grocery store.
Vincent met Dolores Cyr at the 18-30 Club, a group of single Catholics. He asked her to dance and the rest is history. They were married on October 3, 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yakima. He worked in Pete Frank’s Barbershop in Yakima until becoming Asst. Manager for Delorme’s Grocery Store. After that he went on to work at Yakima Cement Products in the office for 10 years. His last job was at Yakima County as a Road Inspector for 22 years until his retirement in 1989.
Vincent was a member of St. Paul Cathedral volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister, making sandwiches for the homeless, putting out the weekly church bulletin, working at the St. Vincent de Paul food bank, Red Cross Blood draws through the Knights of Columbus and was instrumental in organizing the fundraiser of serving coffee and cookies at Indian John Hill for over 30 years with the Knights of Columbus #894 and YLI #96.
He was a lifetime member and Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus #894, and a lifetime member of VFW #379 & the American Legion.
Vin and Dolores belonged to a “potluck” group of 8 couples who met monthly for dinner and had for over 63 years. They enjoyed traveling in their trailer with family and friends. Vin was also on a bowling team through the Knights for many years.
Survivors include his children Chuck (Julie) LaCoursiere, Terry (John) Shumaker, Marilee Bennett all of Yakima and John (Stacy) LaCoursiere of Moxee. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Marcella Mulcahy and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vincent was preceded in death by his wife Dolores, parents Walter and Mary, brother Lester LaCoursiere, sisters Jane Perrault and Ruth Cyr.
A Vigil/Rosary service will be held on Friday, August 16th, at 6:00 p.m. at, Keith and Keith Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Cathedral. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Special thanks to granddaughter, Amy Williams, who daily cared for grandpa so he could remain in his home.
