Roy was born on June 10, 1937 in Lewiston, Idaho to Sylvan and Florence (Gentry) Hatfield.
He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1955. In January of 1956 Roy joined the Coast Guard and served until 1960, he then moved to the Army where he served three tours In Vietnam 1966 – 1967, 1968 for 6 months and 1970 – 1971. After his honorable discharge Roy attended Southern Utah State College where he received his Bachelor degree then he attended the University of Idaho where he earned his Masters Degree.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Hwa Cha Hatfield.
A graveside service for Roy will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Tahoma Cemetery, 1802 Tahoma Ave., Yakima, WA 98902. Following the graveside service will be a celebration of life from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Hope Korean Presbyterian Church, 410 N 37th St, Yakima, WA 98901.
