She was born Rose Irene Schumacher in Blue Grass, North Dakota May 3, 1918 to Emmanuel and Anna (Schutt) Shumacher. She married Thomas R. Moore in 1938, and raised four children, Joyce, Martin, Tom and Howard in Yakima and in California. She lost her oldest son Martin in 1958 and her husband Tom in 1960 and moved back to Yakima where most of her sisters and brothers lived. She then lost her daughter Joyce in 1985.
Mom grew up on a ranch outside Glen Ullin North Dakota and preferred working with her dad in the fields and with the animals over household chores. She was comfortable on a horse, rode a Harley and played guitar and often reminisced about almost running her future husband off the road during one of her Harley rides. The Schumacher’s were a musical family and the brothers had a band and played locally until marriages and life won out over their musical endeavors.
She worked at Montgomery Ward’s in Yakima for several years and during that time met & married Louie Briski in 1962. Louie died in 1993 and in 1998 she met and married Tony Kautzman, who died in 2001.
Rose was preceded in death by two of her children, Martin & Joyce and her three husbands, Tom, Louie and Tony. She has also lost 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
Rose was known for her compassion and kind heart. She had a great sense of humor and she treated everyone like a friend and always was willing to help when she could.
Rose is survived by her two remaining sisters, Eve Masters and Johann Bryant, her two sons Thomas R. Moore Jr. and his wife JoAnn (Yakima), their children Marty & Suzette, Howard J. Moore and wife Judy (Yakima), Howard’s children Matthew and Brandi, Joyce’s Daughter Melanie of California. Rose also leaves behind numerous great-grand children and nieces & nephews.
The family would also like to thank Laura Morgan (nurse, friend and neighbor) and Brianne Kelson (Hospice nurse), for their help and compassion over the last several months.
