Richard was born in Toppenish, Wa. to Carl and Marie Kissler. Richard remained in Toppenish where he met and married Merilou E. Bedard. They were together until Merilou’s death in 1996.
Together, Richard and Merilou operated Kissler Farms. Farming was a way of life for Richard, and he thrived in that profession. He toiled endlessly in the fields driving tractors and trucks. He walked miles setting irrigation pipes making sure the row crops got much needed water. The rest of his time was spent in the shop repairing, updating, or inventing equipment. He was indeed a creative man who could build just about any piece of equipment that was needed.
In the 1970’s Richard got one of the first ever tomato picking machines. It was quite a marvel. He drove it in the parade for all to see. It was also in the early 1970’s when he had some of the best years harvesting sugar beets. Those were the days of plenty.
As time went on, the farming industry was met with many challenges, and Richard was forced to transition from the family farm to working as a farm manager for a local apple grower.
All in all, Richard worked hard throughout many harvests, meeting deadlines and getting crops to market. Even though he spent a lot of time working on the farm he knew how to unwind and have fun. He loved many outdoor activities with his family including camping, riding motorcycles and snow skiing.
He also loved traveling to Mexico, riding his Harley, and hanging out with friends. He was always on the go!
Richard also enjoyed being around his family, especially his grandkids. He liked hearing about their lives and adventures. He was very proud of them.
Richard is survived by his son, Daren Kissler, Daughter Adelas (Kissler) Harvey, Son-in-law John Harvey Jr., Grandchildren Bethany Kissler, Charity (Kissler) Alphonse, Nate Kissler, Alexsana Kissler, Wyatt Harvey and Evin Harvey, Great grandchildren Caleb, Maggie, and Benji Alphonse and many nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife Merilou Kissler, brothers Kenny and David Kissler, Sisters Kathy Kissler and Mary Lou (Kissler) Lightel.
A graveside service will be held at Terrace Heights Memorial Park at 11:00 am on Wednesday October 16 followed by a potluck lunch at Rainier Memorial at 2807 Terrace Heights Drive. All are welcome. Keith and Keith will be handling the arrangements.
