Richard went to be with his Lord Jesus on August 11, 2022. He was born at home in Nez Perce, ID in the middle of a snowstorm on December 22, 1929 to Roy John Cargill and Vera Elizabeth (Johnson) Cargill. Richard was the eldest of two boys.
Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding horses and playing basketball at Clarkston High and Washington State College. He grew strong and had a good work ethic spending his formative summers helping on his uncles’ ranches. Richard graduated from Clarkston High School in 1947. He met the love of his life, Trudy Langmas, while they both were attending Washington State College in Pullman.
Richard enlisted and served in the Navy from 1951-1955, serving as First Class Store Keeper on an oil tanker and an aircraft carrier. Richard and Trudy were married in Pullman, WA on March 20, 1954. They just recently celebrated 68 beautiful years together.
After two years in Stockton, CA, they moved back to Pullman where Richard received his Agriculture degree. He started his teaching career in Endicott, WA then moved to Wenatchee, WA in 1960 to teach at Cashmere High School. In 1968 the young family moved to Yakima, WA where Richard taught at Yakima Valley College for 25 years.
Richard and Trudy have four daughters, Karen, Laura, Nancy and Jana. Richard loved the outdoors and brought Trudy and his daughters with him to enjoy it too. Fishing, muzzleloading, horseback riding, water skiing, sailing, being at the cabin and gardening were some favorite activities.
Richard and Trudy were active members of 1st Presbyterian Church (now Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church) serving as deacons and Richard as an usher for many years. Richard was also active in Southwest Rotary, Muzzle-loaders and a Men’s Bible Study group.
Most of all, Richard was a devoted, loving husband, amazing father, proud Grandpa and doting Great grandpa.
He is survived by his loving wife Trudy; his brother Robert Cargill of Spokane; daughters Karen (John) Rasmussen of Yakima, Laura (Dan) Wodrich of Richland, Nancy (Rick) Orozco of Pasco and Jana (Tony) Kirschner of Palisades; eleven Grandchildren and twenty-five Great grandchildren who all adored and loved him so much.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church of Yakima or Yakima’s Union Gospel Mission.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, 11:00 am at Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church in Yakima.
