Joel William Weber passed peacefully away December 27th, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones and began the next journey of eternal life. His passion for life and for his family and friends was immense. Joel was born on November 20th, 1961 in Yakima, WA to Jerry and Jo Weber. Being the youngest of 6, Joel had to learn how to be a fighter and survivor, which became the foundation of who he was.
Joel attended St. Paul’s and then onto Carroll High School and YVCC. For several years, he worked at Shield’s Bag and Printing, before starting Weber’s Radiator Service. Joel spent his early years participating in many sports, but enjoyed the intensity of football most of all. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding dirt-bikes with his friends. He learned how to fish with his father and considered himself the “Walleye Master”. His favorite thing was enjoying a peaceful sunrise on the lake. Joel shared a special connection with his animals and always had a loyal companion by his side. He was also a self-taught magician and practiced his tricks on his nieces and nephews. He was a hard worker with strong work ethics, which made him a role model to his family and friends. Plus, his warmth and energy could be felt anywhere in the room.
Joel’s dad granted him the opportunity to open a business together which became Weber’s Radiator Service, “The best place in town to take a leak.” Joel loved working side by side with his father. He learned from him that honesty and hard work makes for success. Joel had the ability to make friends with a perfect stranger, which worked to his advantage as a businessman. He was a man of many words and there were no gray areas with him. He will always be remembered by his loud laughs and quick, witty jokes. After many years of hard work, building a successful business, Joel eventually purchased the shop in 1991 which allowed his dad to take a step back and enjoy a semi-retired life.
Joel met his future wife, Dori at a high school dance, introduced by his good friend, Sean. They got married in 1984 and enjoyed life before starting a family several years later in 1991. His greatest accomplishments were his 2 children, Cameron and Courtney. He never missed a sporting event for his kids and he was always their loudest fan, everyone knew Joel was there. The best times were with his family on vacations, boating, skiing, and fishing. He always told his children that whatever you do in life, do it to the fullest and never give up.
Joel is survived in life by his wife, Dori of 33 years, his son, Cameron and his daughter, Courtney, his siblings Jerry (Linda), Jonella (Greg) Leadon, Gene (Geri), Jeff (Vicki), Jill (Cas) Schell, and many nieces and nephews, which hold a special place in his heart. Joel is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Jo Weber and brother-in-law, Carl Vargus.
Joel fought hard against his cancer for 7 years with the support of his family. His close friends were instrumental to his ability to keep going. Through his treatments and procedures, he was still able to manage his business with his dear friend, Kelly. We extend our heartfelt gratitude and good fortune to have had experts in their fields of medicine at the local level, Dr. Bos, Dr. Cleary, and Dr. Boyd, as well as Dr. Loggers in Seattle, and all the excellent nurses at Memorial and NorthStar Lodge. A heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful people at Hospice and Cottage in the Meadow.
The vigil service will be held next Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018 at Holy Family Chapel at 6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family at 10 AM on Thursday, January 4th 2018. A private family interment will be held the following day.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cottage in the Meadow, the Humane Shelter and Rod’s House.
