Janet was born in Yakima on August 4, 1933 to John and Jetta Dietzen. She lived her entire life in Yakima and attended St. Paul’s grade school, St. Joseph Academy, Yakima Community College and Seattle University. Janet was married to James G. Stohr on September 10, 1955 until his death in 2011. She was a lifelong Catholic and attended Holy Family Catholic Church, where she was a member of the altar society, sewing group and funeral committee.
Janet and James owned and operated Dairy Queen stores in Yakima for many years. Janet was involved in her community and was a member of the Rosarium club and Junior League. She enjoyed lifelong sports that included tennis, skiing at White Pass and golf. She was a member of the Westwood Golf ladies league.
Janet was an avid reader, an enthusiastic crossword puzzle player and enjoyed gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Stohr, and her brothers, John Dietzen and Robert Dietzen. She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Whittle (Tom), Karen Stevenson (John), and Pamela Werner (Kirk). Janet had 4 grandchildren, Corey Whittle (Jade), Cameron Whittle (Tashauna), Taylor Hill (Riley) and Nikolas Werner. She also had 4 great-grandchildren.
Janet’s daughters would like to thank the staff at MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital and Cottage in the Meadow for the compassionate care of their mother. As all three daughters live elsewhere in the state, they would also like to give special thanks to caregiver Jennie Hodge, and relative Mary (Whittle) Schroeder, for looking after their mother in their absence.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul Cathedral on Friday, July 26 at 10 A.M.
