Hazel was born in Joliet, Illinois. She was one of ten children born to Ernest Kohn and Mathilda Wilhelmina Birkholz. When she was young she and her family moved from Illinois to Westburo, Wisconsin. While attending a barn dance in Wisconsin, she met the love of her life, Donald Russell. They married in Necedah, Wisconsin on January 3, 1937. To this union, eight children were born. Don and Hazel then moved to the State of Washington in the 1940’s.
Hazel was a homemaker and loved baking bread, pies, cinnamon rolls and peanut brittle. She was kind, loving, and very proud of her family. She was also very friendly, outgoing, and made many friends

Hazel is survived by her children, Don(Sharon)Russell of Yakima, Dick(Linda) Russell of Selah, Bob(Rita) Russell of Yakima, Ernie(Shiela) Russell of Yakima, Jerry(Kathy)Russell of Yakima, Pat(Bill) Sands of Whitehall, Michigan, and Betty Russell of Yakima; Sisters, Edna(Fred) Stauber of Ancorage ,Alaska, and Mildred Rogers of New Lisbon, Wisconsin. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren 54 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Russell; daughter Shirley Miller; two grandchildren and one great grandson; her parents; five brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m., Friday August 27, 2010 at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday August 28, 2010 at the Tree of Life Lutheran Church, 410 N. 37th St., Terrace Heights.Burial will follow at West Hills Memorial Cemetery. Langevin-Mussetter is entrusted with the
