Harold was born on June 30, 1938, in Mobridge, South Dakota to Harold E. Brest and Laura Dine Nathan, and was one of five children. His family migrated to the beautiful lands of Yakima, Washington, where he spent most of his childhood. As a young boy, Harold discovered his love for Washington cherries, spending time as a groundskeeper at Yakima Sportsman State Park, and classic automobiles. He grew into a charming young lad and at the age of 17, began his honorable service in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1963 aboard the USS Toledo CA-133. Shortly after his enlistment, he met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Hughes, and married on Christmas Eve in 1956. Harold and Mary had six amazing children together, and shortly after graduating from Perry Technical Institute as an automobile body repair technician, he relocated his family to the warmer state of Texas in 1973 to pursue his career as a body shop manager. In Texas, Harold embraced his love for football and became a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, cheering on his team for all the years to follow. Harold finalized his career at Bradford Motors in Alice, Texas, and in 2005, moved himself and his wife back to Yakima, Washington to enjoy his retirement.
Harold is survived by his children Cheryl Brest Wavrusa, Ronald and Jean Brest, Rebecca Riley, Sonya Puskarich, Jerry and Robyn Brest, and Pamela Berdine. Harold is also survived by his brother, Fred Brest, and sister, Florence Maybee; and his eleven grandchildren Valerie Wavrusa, Candice Riley, Brittany Puskarich, Heather Jackson, John Riley, Mario Puskarich, Aaron Riley, Brandon Rickman, Colton Berdine, Megan Brest and his loving great-granddaughter, Selene Roslynn Harris; among other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
